Eugene Jackson, a philanthropist
and co-founder of Springhouse Corporation, a healthcare
publishing company, established HealthLink Medical
Center (HLMC) in March 1999. While serving on
the Board at Abington Hospital, Mr. Jackson had
the opportunity to visit a volunteer clinic in
Chester County. He was so impressed with the work
being done there that he came away with a burning
desire to open a volunteer clinic for working
uninsured living in Bucks and Montgomery Counties.
Mr. Jackson purchased a building at 1775 Street
Road in Southampton, PA, for use by HLMC, at a
rental cost of $1 per year. Renovations, as well
as an addition to the building, were completed
in February 2001 and HLMC opened its doors to
medical patients on March 8, 2001 and to dental
patients on August 15, 2001.

HLMC provides primary medical and
dental care to individuals and families, ages
19 to 65 who are employed, who do not have healthcare
insurance, and whose earnings fall within 200%
of the annually published Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Free care is provided by experienced and caring
volunteer healthcare professionals. HLMC currently
has more than 20 volunteer physicians and more
than 20 volunteer dentists. We also have on-site
volunteer specialists including an ENT physician,
a gastroenterologist/hepatologist, a dietician,
a rheumatologist, a dermatologist, a cardiologist,
three oral surgeons, and a chiropractor. We also
have a team of specialists, both medical and dental,
who will see our patients when referred by an
HLMC physician.
Whenever possible, HealthLink provides
free prescription drugs to patients requiring
pharmaceutical intervention. Health education
is also provided to enable patients to make choices
that create healthy lifestyles.
HLMC is open for patient care, during
hours to accommodate working people, including
five days a week, some evenings and two Saturdays
a month. Patient care and delivery and clerical
operations are supported by more than 120 volunteer
healthcare providers and other clerical volunteers. |
